The Bane of Men and the Joy of Women
By Gear Box
Sale!
There is something glorious about a good shoe sale. Just walking into the store and smelling the smell of new shoes. Seeing the orignal price and then the price it's knocked down to. You think, "These shoes are adorable! They would look sexy with my new jeans!" At least, that's what I think about. However, after squeeling when seeing such a good sale, I hear my husband next to me groan. Looking over at him and putting my hands on my hips I ask, "What? They're cute!" "Yes," he says, "But are they comfortable?" "...Probably not..." I have to admit. "Well then, what's the point?" he asks me and I do have to ponder on that question. My husband looks for the functionality and comfort of a shoe and I look at how adorable and hot the shoe is. Why is there such a difference between us?
Observations
There are many theories as to why women and men are the way they are. My father once told me that men were the inventors of women's high heeled shoes. He told me that the reason for this was because it would make it harder for women to run away as well as make them more appealing because it makes a woman's rump and bust push out more. I don't really know if men inventing women's high heels is really true... but it does make sense.
Most men, on the other hand, like the comfort and functionality of their shoes. I have been known to shudder at some of my husband's shoes. I do have a small wish that he'd buy a nice pair of Italian Leather Ankle boots. But I don't think that'll happen any time soon. My husband says that as long as he can work and run and just be comfortable in his shoes... he generally doesn't care what it looks like. Well, I say he's just very comfortable with himself anyway so appearance doesn't matter a whole huge deal. So my theory there is that since for the most part the husband brings home the bacon... he must be able to work in his shoes to bring home said bacon.
Different shoe meanings...
Women, on the other hand, are always looking to be seen. We're generally always wanting some form of empowerment. The joy of being comfortable in their own body. To do this, the clothes that drape the body, matter. And especially the shoes, what better way to feel good than wear a pair of shoes? When you see a woman wear a worn down pair of flip flops, usually she looks a little bit more tired. When you see a woman in a pair of sneakers, she's a woman on the go. When you see a woman in a pair of heels, she's a woman who's in charge and won't let something uncomfortable stop her. Especially if they're a sexy pair of heels.
The last word?
As my husband finally convinced me that we could probably go out to dinner with the money I would otherwise spend on shoes... we walk away from the enticing sale. It's a tragic moment for me. The glorious pair of shoes in the window... and knowing hot I would look with them on... how long my legs would look and how my husband would feel even prouder to have me on his arm. I turned right around, dragging my husband by the arm and threw caution to the wind by saying, "But they're so cute!"

"I can never have too many shoes or too much chololate." I don't remember where I got that quote but it is true. I love shoes. Great hub - lighthearted and true.
